Jean-Pierre’s Testimony on Biden’s Confusion Sparks Controversy
In a surprising turn of events, former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated that she couldn’t recall any video of former President Joe Biden appearing confused or frozen during his recent testimony to the House Oversight Committee. This comes to light as new footage and recordings have emerged.
Jean-Pierre had previously criticized the media in June 2024, accusing outlets like the Post of promoting “cheap fakery” regarding Biden, who was 81 at the time, appearing disoriented at a global event.
During a private interview with the Republican-led committee on September 12, wherein they later published their findings, Jean-Pierre faced questions regarding these past claims. A video recording and a full text transcription were made available after the committee’s public hearing this week.
At one point during the questioning, Jake Greenberg, the chief adviser for the committee, asked her, “[W]as all the footage circulating on social media and showing President Biden looking confused and frozen at times? Was it all fake?”
Jean-Pierre responded, “I can’t talk about everything that was on social media.”
Greenberg pressed further, asking, “But there have been instances where videos have gone viral showing President Biden appearing confused or momentarily frozen, and that was real, right?”
Her reply was, “I don’t remember anything like that,” expressed with a touch of disbelief.
Jean-Pierre maintained that the videos portraying the then-president as lost were “not what’s actually happening.”
When Greenberg inquired if she had ever seen Biden appear confused, she simply answered, “No.”
Later in the interview, Jean-Pierre was specifically asked about Biden’s poor performance during a debate against Donald Trump in June 2024 and if he seemed “confused” then.
Her reply was that he “looked to me like he had a cold.”
In response, Greenberg retorted, “So when he said, ‘We finally beat Medicare,’ does that mean you have a cold?”
“I think he was sick,” she insisted. “I can’t talk about what happened at the time or what he was thinking.”
She added, “He said it was a bad night. He said it was a bad performance.”
Jean-Pierre’s remarks were part of the House Oversight Committee’s investigation into allegations that Biden concealed instances of his mental decline. This week, the committee released a significant report which concluded that Biden’s aides took considerable steps to “meticulously stage” his public appearances, manage his private affairs, and even limit interactions with Congress members.
The report also declared that many of Biden’s executive actions “cannot all be considered his own,” after aides worked hard to support the 46th president amid his physical and cognitive challenges during his presidency.
