Karine Jean-Pierre says Trump’s comments about Kamala Harris’ black identity are ‘insulting’ and ‘repulsive’

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre slammed former President Donald Trump for suggesting to a group of black journalists that Vice President Kamala Harris identifies as black only for political gain.

Trump made the remarks during an interview at the National Association of Black Journalists’ annual conference in Chicago on Wednesday, where he criticized Harris, who is half Jamaican and half Indian, for only identifying as a black American late in her political career.

“Only she can talk about her experience. Only she can talk about what it feels like.”

Jean-Pierre was initially Laughed Commenting on the remarks, he slammed President Trump during a White House press conference.

“As a person of color, and as a Black woman standing in front of you behind this podium, what he just said, what you just read to me, is offensive. It’s offensive,” she said.

“And nobody has the right to tell someone who they are or how they identify. It’s nobody’s right. It’s their own decision. And I would add: Only she can talk about her experience. Only she can talk about what it’s like. Only she is the only person who can do that,” Jean-Pierre continued.

“I think it’s an insult to anybody. It doesn’t matter if it’s a former leader, a former president. It’s an insult,” she concluded. “She’s the vice president of the United States. Kamala Harris. We need to respect her name. Period.”

“I didn’t know she was black until a few years ago when she happened to be black.”

Trump, who sparked controversy at the convention by accusing the moderator of being biased and delaying the interview because of electronic problems, was asked if he thought Harris became the Democratic nominee because she is a black woman. I was in deep thought. Regarding Harris’ racial identity.

“I knew her indirectly for a long time but not much directly. She was always of Indian descent and was just promoting her Indian heritage,” the former president said.

“I didn’t know she was black until a few years ago when she happened to be black. And now she wants to be known as black. So I don’t know if she’s Indian or black,” he added.

“She always identified as a black woman,” the interviewer responded.

“I respect both people, but she clearly does not, because she’s been Indian her whole life and then all of a sudden she turns around and becomes black. I think someone should look into that as well, because you keep coming at it in a very hostile and mean-spirited way.”
