Karl-Anthony Towns ‘disappointed’ by rough free-throw shooting

Karl-Anthony Towns scored his highest point of the season Wednesday night, but he remained on the court and worked on the game long after the Knicks' last-minute loss to the Bulls.

Towns scored a season-high 46 points, but missed two crucial free throws in the fourth quarter and lost to the Bulls 124-123 in a game in which the Knicks overcame a 22-point hole in the second half.

Towns was seen hitting about 35 to 40 free throws on the Garden floor well after the final buzzer.

“Not really, but I was disappointed with the way I shot my free throws,” Towns said after the game. “I'm going to make it all. When I look back on the game, especially when I didn't win in a tough game like this, I look in the mirror at everything I could have done.

“If I make a few of those free throws, at least two or three, it puts the team in a different position.”

Towns shot a career-best 83.9 percent from free throws, but missed 4 of 8 in the game, including one with 5:56 left in the fourth quarter when the Knicks were leading by one point. Two pieces were included.

All three solid guards could suit up against the Bulls, although the odds may have been ominous for the Knicks in the backcourt.

Jalen Brunson (ankle), Miles McBride (knee) and Cam Payne (hamstring) were all listed as questionable on the injury report.

Brunson scored 24 points in 34 minutes, and Payne came off the bench with a season-high 11 points, including 3-of-3 from 3-point range.

Coach Tom Thibodeau said forward Precious Achiuwa (hamstring) is still unable to practice, missing the first 11 games in a row.

Point guard Lonzo Ball missed the game against the Bulls with a sprained right wrist. He missed the past two years due to injury, but has appeared in three games this season.
