Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart make history in Knicks win

Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart can claim something unique as Knicks teammates.

By sending out the Mavericks 128-113, which was looted on Tuesday, they became the first duo in franchise history to score a triple double in the same game.

And they spent plenty of time doing it.

Towns closed the triple-double with assists at the beginning of the fourth quarter, finishing the night of stats suspended with 26 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists.

Hart finished with a rebound in the third quarter – with 16 points, 12 boards and 11 assists – the Knicks slammed the Mavericks with an offensive attack.

OG Anunoby's exquisite performance – 35 points, 24-15 shooting – was overshadowed by a triple double.

And the Heart was historic in itself.

It represents the ninth triple double of the season, overturning Clyde Frasier's 56-year-old franchise record.

Fraser, the most synonymous player with the Knicks, happens to celebrate his 80th birthday on Saturday. That night, we will be holding a celebration planned by the MSG Network for a broadcast with the Blazers.

Double triple double was the first time in New York, but it's not so rare throughout the NBA.

In fact, Nicola Jokic and Russell Westbrook did that for the Nuggets this season.

Mavericks (35-38) was able to fill in the statistics easily.

They entered MSG as a team shell, with only nine active players.

Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving were on the bench, dressed in food stalls.

Luka Doncic is the same as the Lakers.

The Knicks (45-26) were also slammed without Jalen Branson, Miles McBride and Mitchell Robinson.

However, Tuesday should have been an easy win.

They spent two days off after a home game with the terrible Wizard on Saturday, but the Mavericks were open for their second consecutive night following their victory in Brooklyn on Monday.

Davis played for Barclays Center before sitting at MSG.

Still, the Knicks find themselves in a tough battle throughout the opening half. Naj Marshall, who averaged 13.1 points, feasted New York's defense with 28 people who opened two quarters.

The team was also 68 years old and had a break.

The Knicks then stomped the Mavericks in the third quarter, allowing only 15 points in that period.

Hart warned that no matter who is missing, he would not overlook Maverick.

The Knicks came out of a disappointing three-game stretch, including losses to the Spurs and the hornet, before winning the Wizard.

“I think we've always been about us in the last three or four games and we didn't have the physicality or energy we needed,” Hart said. “We took a step in a positive direction against Washington, but those who are being beaten may not know the guys from the couple on the team, but they play very hard.

“We find ourselves in the hole 12-0, 13-0 to start the game without respecting the game, without respecting the other players. They are talented. They play very hard. They are aggressive.
