Karmelo Anthony and a teenager charged with stabbing Austin Metcalf will still graduate from high school despite the murder accusation.

Carmelo Anthony, a 17-year-old, admitted to fatally stabbing another student during a track event in Texas. Despite facing a first-degree murder charge, he is set to graduate from Centennial High School in Frisco on May 22nd, although he won’t be attending the graduation ceremony.

As reported by WFAA, Dominique Alexander, the spokesperson for Anthony’s family and president of the Next Generation Action Network (NGAN), expressed pride in Anthony’s academic achievements, stating that they should not be overshadowed by his legal troubles. Alexander highlighted the advocacy efforts that helped reach a resolution focused on the student’s dignity.

However, Frisco ISD principal Mike Waldlip clarified that reports suggesting Anthony could attend the graduation were false. He emphasized that students with serious criminal offenses are prohibited from participating in graduation ceremonies, underscoring the district’s commitment to maintaining a safe environment.

According to the arrest report, the incident took place when Austin Metcalf, a junior from Memorial High School, asked Anthony to relocate from under a pop-up tent. The situation escalated when Metcalf allegedly grabbed Anthony, prompting him to draw a knife and stab Metcalf in the chest.

Metcalf’s twin brother, Hunter, tried to help but was unable to save him. In an emotional recount, Hunter described trying to staunch the bleeding and witnessing his brother’s last moments.

Following the altercation, Anthony attempted to flee but was apprehended by authorities. He later claimed during questioning that he was acting in self-defense.
