Carmelo Anthony’s Case Sparks Violence and Threats

Supporters of Carmelo Anthony seem to be resorting to violence following his murder conviction, while the family of Austin Metcalf, the teenager Anthony killed, has reportedly received death threats since the verdict.

Both Anthony and Metcalf were just 17 years old when the stabbing incident occurred during a high school track meet last April. Anthony was convicted of murder on Tuesday and sentenced to 35 years behind bars. Shortly thereafter, he filed an appeal to contest the conviction.

There have been reports that Anthony’s supporters are making threatening statements. A video circulating on social media, purportedly from a Jacksonville, Florida user, shows a cyclist assaulting a man, capturing the event from the rider’s viewpoint.

In this altercation, an alleged assailant is heard questioning the victim about whether she was involved in jury selection for Anthony’s case. Adding to the tension, a woman’s voice claims that the attacker is a military veteran.

The Jacksonville Police Department acknowledged awareness of the video and stated they are investigating the individuals involved.

Amid these escalating threats, an online fundraiser for Anthony popped up, only to be quickly shut down by GoFundMe after generating several hundred dollars. It appears this fundraiser was removed as the platform prohibits fundraising for individuals charged with violent crimes.

In an official statement, GoFundMe reiterated that such fundraising campaigns violate their long-standing policies, leading to the removal of the fundraiser and a refund of the $726 raised.

As for the Metcalf family, the threats remain serious. Reports indicate that family members have received intimidating messages, including one that reportedly suggested Austin’s twin brother, Hunter, should have been involved in the stabbing, too.

Compounding the family’s ordeal, some individuals have threatened to appear at their home and make disrespectful remarks about Austin’s grave. It’s unclear who specifically is sending these messages, and the Metcalf family has not publicly revealed the details.

Despite the trial’s conclusion, Jeff Metcalf, Austin’s father, mentioned that he continues to receive threats. There were even instances last August when a SWAT team was dispatched to their home after a concerning 911 call.

Fox News Digital has sought comments from both the Metcalf family and the Frisco Police Department regarding these threats.
