Karoline Leavitt commends Supreme Court decision on Tennessee transgender law

The White House expressed its approval on Thursday regarding the Supreme Court’s ruling that upheld Tennessee’s law against adolescent blockers and other treatments for transgender minors, stating it did not breach Section 14.

During a daily briefing, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt described this as a “big victory for American children.” She emphasized that the administration believes, quite firmly, that minors shouldn’t face risks associated with chemical castration and surgery.

Leavitt noted that Trump had signed a “very strong executive order” related to this issue and extended thanks to efforts in Nashville aimed at safeguarding the youth in Tennessee.

This case, which involves three transgender minors and their families, also featured the Biden administration as a plaintiff, taking advantage of a law which allows the president to engage in lawsuits over the Equality Protection Clause.

The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 in favor of the Tennessee law, which bars treatments that facilitate minors in acknowledging or living contrary to their assigned gender. Justice John Roberts remarked that the law was “not classified as a basis for strengthened review,” pointing to the significant scientific and policy discussions surrounding the safety and validity of such medical treatments.

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti stated that the law enjoyed backing from “a bipartisan supermajority of Tennessee’s elected representatives.” He expressed admiration for the bravery of the state legislature and Gov. Lee in passing the law, despite protests from the Biden administration and various advocacy groups.
