Karoline Leavitt Criticizes Media for Its Coverage of Russia-Ukraine Negotiations

Caroline Levitt, the Press Director, received commendations from Vice President JD Vance amidst criticism regarding media coverage of Trump’s recent discussions with leaders from Russia, Ukraine, and Europe during a White House briefing on Tuesday.

On the same day, the official White House Rapid Response Account, Quick response 47, shared a video that features Levitt, making a claim about false media narratives surrounding the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

During her comments, Levitt pointed out, “One thing that hasn’t changed is the negative and often false portrayal by the media regarding President Trump and his foreign policy successes. From the outset, many in the left-wing media have been deeply entrenched in their critiques of the president’s role in seeking peace.”

She referenced a report that characterized Trump as “seeing Russia” after agreeing to host President Vladimir Putin in the U.S., stating, “The media claimed President Trump made a grave error by recognizing Putin. Their portrayal suggested he was treating another leader with respect, which seemed to bother them.” She noted that the meeting was framed as a “major defeat” for Trump despite not reaching immediate agreements, emphasizing it was more about understanding each other’s perspectives.

Levitt remarked, “Following the historic US-Russia dialogue over the weekend, we heard uninformed experts on television who failed to acknowledge this was a success for the President.” She suggested that longstanding foreign policy failures, marked by “endless wars and wasted taxpayer dollars,” shouldn’t grant experts the authority to criticize Trump’s approach to peace.

She also highlighted Trump’s accomplishments, mentioning that he had resolved seven global conflicts over seven months, alongside multiple peace agreements including the Abraham Accords during his first term. Levitt mentioned the attendance of Ukrainian President Voldy Mie Zelensky and other European leaders at the White House this week, framing it as a sign of progress since the Alaska Summit. She conveyed that the media’s portrayal was unjustly critical.

Levitt pointed out that public trust in the media is at a historic low, saying, “Many outlets continue to undermine the President and impede efforts toward peace.”

In a response during the press conference, Vice President JD Vance commented that Levitt was shedding light on the misinformation disseminated by U.S. media regarding the Russia-Ukraine negotiations.

This press briefing followed a series of diplomatic engagements within the Trump administration, which included a summit on Friday with Russian President Putin in Anchorage, Alaska. The White House discussions continued on Monday, involving Ukrainian President Zelensky and European leaders, all aimed at fostering negotiations for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
