Karoline Leavitt Inquired About JD Vance’s Involvement in Iran Ceasefire

Ceasefire Agreement Involvement

During a press briefing on Wednesday, White House correspondent Reagan Reese inquired about Vice President J.D. Vance’s role in the recent ceasefire agreement involving the U.S. and Iran. Reports indicate that Vance has become a significant player in facilitating this agreement.

White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt acknowledged Vance’s substantial involvement, noting that he has participated in the negotiations from the outset. She also shared that he will commence a new round of talks later this week.

Reese asked, “The ceasefire seems to hinge on two unexpected contributors: J.D. Vance and China. Could you elaborate on their influence in reaching this agreement?”

“Yes, Vice President Vance has indeed played an essential role throughout,” Leavitt responded. “Being the president’s right-hand man, he is deeply engaged in these discussions. As we announced, he is set to lead new negotiations in Islamabad this week.”

Additionally, Leavitt recognized the significant role of the Chinese government in achieving the ceasefire, mentioning that high-ranking officials from both the U.S. and China have been in dialogue about concluding the conflict.

President Trump stated that Vance is instrumental in the negotiations with Iran, alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Vance is expected to travel to Islamabad this Saturday for discussions aimed at ending the conflict.

Sources indicated that Vance has expressed concerns regarding U.S. involvement in a potential war with Iran, showing skepticism about Trump’s decision to initiate Operation Epic Fury earlier this year. He rejected certain claims, explaining that the administration is weighing the best actions to “protect the American people.”

While Vance has traditionally opposed foreign interventions, he recently expressed support for Trump, given that the latter does not aim to deploy American troops abroad. Yet, leaked chats from 2025 reveal a divergence in thoughts, as Vance criticized bombing the Houthis as a “mistake.”

Trump cautioned that if an agreement is not reached by Tuesday evening regarding the cessation of hostilities and reopening the Strait of Hormuz—an essential shipping lane for oil—”an entire civilization will perish.” Iran has conceded to an unconditional two-week ceasefire, which includes the temporary reopening of this strategic waterway.
