Caroline Leavitt recently shared her experience of telling her parents that she was dating a man closer to their age, which, as a White House representative explained, was a bit awkward.
Speaking on the “Pod Force One” podcast with Miranda Devine, Leavitt admitted that starting that conversation was definitely challenging.
At just 28 years old, she became the youngest press secretary under President Trump. Yet, this isn’t the only notable age gap she’s faced—her husband is actually 32 years her senior.
Leavitt and Nicholas Riccio, now 60, began their relationship back in 2022 when Riccio was 25 and campaigning for a position in the New Hampshire House of Representatives.
She mentioned that his parents were initially a bit skeptical about their age difference, but as time went on and they interacted more, they came to see Riccio as a valuable addition to the family.
“I think once they got to know him—his personality and the love he has for me—it became easier for them. We all get along well now,” she said.
Despite the pressures of her role, Leavitt noted that their relationship continues to flourish. The couple welcomed their son, Nico, who is currently one year old, in July 2024.
They tied the knot in January 2025, just two days before Trump’s re-election.
Through everything, Riccio has remained central to the Leavitt family dynamic. Leavitt expressed her deep affection for him, saying, “It’s a typical family setup, and my husband respects my parents a lot. We all have a good time together when they visit.”
