Kash Patel Reports That Both National Guardsmen Shot Near the White House Are in Critical Condition

FBI Director Updates on National Guard Shootings

During a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that two National Guard soldiers, shot earlier near the White House, are alive but in critical condition. Despite earlier reports, including one from Republican Governor Patrick Morrissey, Patel emphasized their status multiple times.

At around 3:42 p.m. ET, a message had circulated stating that the soldiers had “succumbed to their injuries.” However, Metropolitan Police Department Chief of Staff Jeffrey Carroll supported Patel’s claims during the same press conference, affirming that the soldiers remained alive.

“At approximately 2:15 p.m. local time, two brave members of the National Guard and Department of the Army were brazenly attacked in a horrific act of violence in Washington, D.C.,” Patel noted, further stating that they were shot and in critical condition.

Patel remarked on the extensive collaboration among federal, state, and local law enforcement to ensure that those responsible are identified and prosecuted. He mentioned, “This will be treated as an assault on a federal law enforcement officer at the federal level, led by the FBI in conjunction with interagency partners.” This includes cooperation with the Department of Homeland Security and other agencies.

Patel expressed gratitude to Democratic D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser for her support and praised the work of law enforcement, mentioning their exceptional capabilities in handling serious crimes in the city.

According to Carroll, both soldiers are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital. He mentioned there were no suspects identified apart from one individual already in custody.

Evidence from video footage suggests that a lone gunman ambushed the National Guard but was quickly apprehended by other military and law enforcement personnel. Carroll also stated that authorities currently have “no motive” for the attack. Notably, he mentioned the soldiers were armed during the incident.

Patel affirmed the FBI’s commitment to working closely with various officials and agencies to hold those responsible accountable, underscoring the seriousness of the situation as one of “national security.” He encouraged Americans to pray for the soldiers and their families during this challenging time, emphasizing their role in protecting the nation.

He concluded with a reminder of the sacrifices made by these individuals, underscoring the importance of their service and bravery.
