FBI Director Supports Trump Administration’s Budget Proposal
FBI Director Kash Patel expressed his full support for the budget proposed by the Trump administration during his testimony before a House committee on Wednesday. He emphatically declared, “As I mentioned in my testimony today, I completely back President Trump’s budget, which adequately funds the FBI and its crucial mission. The alternative proposal is, quite frankly, misguided and deceptive.”
The budget proposal, announced last Friday, suggests a $545 million reduction in the FBI’s funding as part of Trump’s broader initiative to trim government spending by $163 billion. Patel cautioned against these cuts, stating, “We cannot maintain operations at the level required under such constraints. This would essentially return us to 2011 levels in funding if the proposed cuts are implemented.”
He further implored the committee to approve budgets that tackle what he described as surging crime and terrorism rates across the nation.
According to a recent FBI statement, law enforcement has made over 6,000 arrests related to immigration and apprehended members of notorious gangs, including TDA (Tren de Aragua) and 136 individuals from MS-13. These figures underscore the urgency Patel highlighted in his testimony.
The budget cuts were intended to streamline operations within the department by reducing overhead costs in Washington, D.C., according to the White House’s rationale.
Additionally, the proposal aims to phase out programs related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, along with other initiatives from the Biden administration that do not align with the current president’s priorities.
“The threats our nation faces today are more varied than ever, and the demands placed on the FBI have escalated significantly,” the FBI statement noted. “With the resources we are requesting, the FBI will have the capabilities, expertise, and authority to better safeguard Americans and uphold the Constitution.”
