Kate Beckinsale Speaks Out on Agency Dismissal Over Activism
Actress Kate Beckinsale recently shared her experience regarding agency dismissal related to her pro-Palestinian stance. She highlighted her discontent over being let go from her agency alongside Susan Sarandon, despite their vocal support for a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict.
In an Instagram post, Beckinsale expressed relief that her agent didn’t terminate her for simply liking a post advocating for peace. She pointed out a disparity she perceived in Hollywood, suggesting that male actors might not face the same repercussions for similar expressions. “I think it really means a lot to have a penis in Hollywood,” she remarked, indicating that Mark Ruffalo, who has publicly championed Palestinian causes, was not subjected to the same fate as herself and Sarandon.
Beckinsale detailed that she liked a post calling for a ceasefire on the same day she was dismissed, shortly after the end of a strike that had left many actors without work for months. She revealed that it was particularly challenging for her, as she was juggling personal hardships, including caring for her mother, who was given a terminal diagnosis, while dealing with the recent death of her stepfather.
“I was coping alone,” she wrote, sharing the emotional turmoil surrounding her family situation.
She expressed frustration that her recognition of humanitarian issues, which she believed were apolitical, contributed to her firing, while other actors didn’t seem to face similar consequences. Beckinsale stressed how important it is for female actors and advocacy groups to be heard, mentioning that she previously reached out to Ruffalo without a response.
This isn’t the first time Beckinsale has criticized Hollywood’s treatment of women. In the past, she’s opened up about the pressures female actors face, recounting a personal experience where she was urged to pose for a photo the day after a miscarriage.
