Kate Middleton reveals that her cancer diagnosis made her conscious of her alcohol consumption: reports

Duchess Kate’s Alcohol Reduction Post-Cancer Diagnosis

This week, Duchess Kate shared that her alcohol consumption has significantly decreased since her cancer diagnosis two years ago. During a visit to the Faval Beer Hall in London’s Bermondsey Beer Mile, she reflected on her drinking habits, saying, “I haven’t had much alcohol since I was diagnosed. That’s something I have to be more conscious about now.”

When she inquired about non-alcoholic options at the beer hall, owner Hannah Rose responded that they hadn’t implemented any yet, although she expressed a desire to do so in the future, emphasizing the skill required.

While at the venue, the 44-year-old opted for a soda. She also playfully acknowledged Prince William, who accompanied her, mentioning his fondness for cider. William confirmed, remarking, “I like cider. I grew up drinking cider in the West Country.”

In early 2024, Middleton revealed that she had undergone a significant abdominal surgery in January. Initially, her condition was not thought to be cancerous, but post-surgery tests indicated otherwise. Consequently, her medical team recommended preventive chemotherapy, and she has since noted being in the early stages of that treatment.

The princess had previously announced in January 2023 that her cancer was in remission following treatment completed in the fall. It’s worth noting that alcohol is classified as a Group 1 carcinogen, which means it has been linked to an increased risk of various cancers.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests that reducing alcohol intake—or abstaining altogether—can lower cancer risk. They emphasize that all types of alcohol, whether red wine, white wine, or beer, can contribute to this risk.

Interestingly, studies have indicated that consuming three or more alcoholic drinks daily can heighten the risk of certain types of cancer, including stomach and pancreatic cancers, and might also elevate the risk for prostate cancer.

During their brewery visit, which was shared through a video montage on their official Instagram account, the couple highlighted Southwark’s significant history in the beer production industry. They remarked on the blend of innovation and community in this traditional craft.
