Katherine LaNasa from ‘The Pitt’ Purchases $2 Million Los Angeles Home

Katherine LaNasa’s Rise After ‘The Pit’

Katherine LaNasa, known for her work in “The Pit,” has swiftly gained recognition in Hollywood since the show debuted. It seems she celebrated her new role lavishly with the purchase of a mansion in Los Angeles.

Records indicate that LaNasa, who is 59, and her husband Grant Shaw, 63, a former star of “Melrose Place,” spent $2.13 million on a substantial estate. This mid-century modern “masterpiece” is set to be completed by March 2025—just two months post the premiere of “The Pit” on HBO.

Their new home in Beachwood Canyon comes roughly a year after they acquired a picturesque beachfront property in the same area, which they sold for $1.88 million after owning it for more than a decade.

Though this new residence isn’t near the ocean, it boasts several impressive features, including its design by the renowned architect Lorenzo Tedesco in the 1960s. When LaNasa and Shaw took ownership, it had been owned by the same family for over 50 years and is considered a “true piece of Los Angeles history.”

Described as seamlessly blending with its natural surroundings, the house features a stone and wood exterior, along with expansive windows that offer stunning views from every room. There are numerous balconies, perfect spots for enjoying the scenery.

The less-than-half-acre lot also provides ample space for expansion should LaNasa and Shaw wish to add to their existing 2,500-square-foot home. The listing emphasizes this as a rare chance to own a slice of architectural history, appealing especially to those who value its beauty and rich background.

Interestingly, LaNasa and Shaw made the purchase for over $100,000 above the initial asking price of $1.99 million. This new chapter follows a challenging period in LaNasa’s life, admitting she was in a “dark place” before landing her role in “The Pit,” largely due to a breast cancer diagnosis she received in February 2023, which left her out of work for a time.

Since her character’s debut, LaNasa has experienced a surge in her career, even earning an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series at the 2025 ceremony. During her appearance on Stephen Colbert’s late-night show, she reflected on how her life drastically changed after joining “The Pit.”

“A year before I got ‘The Pit,’ I was struggling,” she shared, recalling her feelings of failure and regret during her illness. She recounted how, as a child during tough times, she focused on changing her circumstances, only to find herself feeling down when things didn’t go as planned.

However, a turning point came when she watched Colbert discuss grief’s role in life, helping her realize that it’s essential to embrace all emotions—both good and bad. LaNasa said that understanding this allowed her to appreciate her life more fully, contributing to her brightening outlook.

She credited her battle with cancer as a significant factor in her performance in “The Pit,” particularly in portraying the crucial roles healthcare workers play. “Then it connected with people, and they gave me an Emmy,” she recalled, overwhelmed by the recognition.

LaNasa’s revelation about how her involvement in “The Pit” transformed her life comes shortly after her co-star Noah Wyle shared similar experiences regarding the show. Wyle has also touched on his struggles, having moved to a ranch in Santa Ynez, California, away from Hollywood’s glare, and describing recent hardships that have impacted him deeply.

Despite these challenges, Wyle sees his time in “The Pit” as a gift, emphasizing that he never expected such an impactful experience again after his work in “ER.” As the show gears up for a second season, all involved remain surprised by the success and connection to audiences.

Wyle’s transformation, inspired by the series’ response and the emotional weight it carries, signifies a new adventure for both actors as they navigate their careers post “The Pit.”
