Kathie Lee Gifford never expected her hip replacement surgery to become such a big deal.
The former talk show host thought that her extremely active lifestyle would help her recovery process after surgery, and that her recovery would be “easy.”
Gifford, 70, People MagazineShe described the experience as “one of the most difficult situations of my life.”

“It’s been really hard,” she added.
Gifford “jumped off the gurney after surgery” but quickly realized that, unlike her mind, her body couldn’t handle the slow change in pace.

“I was walking, climbing, walking, but the doctor said, ‘Cathy, no. You have to realise this is serious,'” she said.

“I was walker-free within two days,” Gifford boasted, then weaned myself off all medication within three days, but added, “But I did too much. I just did too much because that’s me.”
“I’d be carrying the book around, signing autographs and getting things ready, and then my grandkids would come over to play,” she said.

“But I can’t. This experience has taught me that there’s only so much you can do. You’re only human. You’re only human. And I’m so grateful.”

Gifford realized her “hips” were the reason she needed surgery. [were] She witnessed thick hair growing “down to the root,” which doctors attributed to her highly active lifestyle.
“This experience has taught me that there’s only so much you can do. You’re only human. You’re only human. I’m so grateful.”
“You’ve climbed mountains, made movies, been on stage — you’ve never taken your high heels off — and you’ve kept going, which is why you’re suffering like you are now,” she recalled the specialist telling her.

Despite this, Gifford has no regrets about why she had the surgery or the difficult recovery process.

“[I ask myself] “Would I change it? No. I was fulfilling the purpose God sent me to this earth for. Every year, I was doing what He asked me to do,” she said.

In the early 1980s, she began working as a correspondent for “Good Morning America” and hosted “The Morning Show” with Regis Philbin on a local New York City station in 1985. Three years later, the show began airing nationally as “Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee,” and she has been a household name ever since.
