Kathy Ireland Shares Tips for Health and Fitness
Kathy Ireland has offered her insights on maintaining health and fitness as the new year approaches.
In a conversation, the 62-year-old supermodel and entrepreneur emphasized that true health encompasses not only physical well-being but also mental state, surroundings, habits, and relationships. She advocates for a mindful approach to health.
“It’s important to be informed about what you’re consuming, not just what goes into your body but also what you’re taking in mentally,” Ireland noted.
She continued, “Consider what you’re listening to and watching. Is it uplifting or just adding stress? It’s crucial to be aware of these influences.” She acknowledges that everyone’s journey is unique, adding, “We’re all at different stages.”
As the CEO of Kathy Ireland Brand, she mentioned that she’s encountered new physical challenges since she recently began working as a commercial fisherman.
In July, Ireland shared that she earned a commercial blue-water fishing license from California’s Department of Fish and Wildlife and is part of the crew on the 4th Watch, which is captained by her husband, Dr. John Johnson.
“I stay pretty active, but I’ve realized some areas of my body are feeling the strain from working on the boat for long hours,” she remarked.
She explained that working in commercial fishing often means long, intense days that start before dawn. However, despite the physical demands, she finds it fulfilling.
“One of the best things about filling bait jars is that I can take a moment’s break while I do it,” she said. “It’s challenging, but you do what you enjoy.”
“Think about what activities you enjoy,” Ireland suggested. “Maybe it’s going for a walk or even just tidying up. Staying busy—whatever it may be—helps keep you active. It’s important to get out there and enjoy life.”
As she reflects on aging, Ireland mentioned she is becoming more intentional about the relationships she fosters. “I appreciate what I do and enjoy growing older,” she shared. “Time and relationships are precious. I want to make the most out of every opportunity.”
She remarked that staying youthful feels like a “state of mind,” stating, “When I’m working at sea, I feel like I’m 12 again.”
“It’s genuinely fun,” she said. “Sometimes I think, ‘Should I even go out today?’ But I really love life at sea.”
“Getting older is a journey,” Ireland expressed. “It keeps us humble, which is a good thing. I understand I might not maintain the physical abilities I have now forever.”
She continued, “Youthfulness is all about mindset. I embrace maturity more than clinging to youth, and I see it positively. Each year brings more knowledge and experiences, which is exciting to reflect on.”
In closing, she acknowledged that every stage of life requires acceptance, and she hopes to appreciate and fully engage with each phase as it comes.
