Katie Porter's Outburst Reveals the 'Arrogance' of California Democrats

California Governor Race Insights from Steve Hilton

California Republican candidate for governor, Steve Hilton, has criticized former Representative Katie Porter for her reaction during an interview when asked about appealing to Trump supporters. He sees her response as reflective of the “arrogance” and “obviousness” of California Democrats.

In a discussion with Matthew Boyle from Breitbart News Saturday, Hilton commented on Porter’s candidacy as she aims to replace Governor Gavin Newsom. He announced his own gubernatorial bid earlier this year.

Referring to Porter’s conversation with CBS News reporter Julie Watts, Hilton pointed out that her irritation and threat to end the interview when pressed on engaging Trump voters exposed not only her shortcomings but also those of the Democratic Party in California.

“In a way, that’s good news,” he remarked. “While it’s about her poor performance, it also reveals a larger issue within the Democratic Party. The attitude she displayed shows the arrogance pervasive in California politics. It’s as if they think, ‘Why should anyone question us?’”

Hilton lamented the past 15 years of Democratic rule in California, citing a lack of accountability for their failures and poor state outcomes, including high costs of living, unemployment, and poverty rates.

He described the current situation in California as a “disaster,” stating that Democrats like former Vice President Kamala Harris and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass exhibit a mindset that they can remain in power indefinitely, a sentiment he calls “arrogance.”

“That kind of arrogance emerges when power is held for too long, and I believe people are ready for a change. This moment has allowed many to see the true nature of these leaders,” he said. “I’m confident we can win. People are weary of the elitist Democratic Party and their disappointing results.”

Hilton acknowledged that midterm elections typically witness low voter turnout but believes that energizing campaigns focused on change could inspire higher participation in California.
