Katie Zacharia Becomes New White House Press Secretary
Katie Zacharia is stepping into her role as the White House Press Secretary, following a gap since Karoline Leavitt’s last press conference over a month ago. With Leavitt departing at the end of August, various administration officials temporarily filled in during that time. However, President Donald Trump made the announcement on Friday regarding Zacharia’s new position.
Zacharia’s initial press conference is scheduled for Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. ET, although she officially assumed her duties on Monday, as noted in a post by Trump on Truth Social.
Previously, Zacharia served as a senior communications adviser for Trump Media & Technology Group, the organization behind Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social. She has been a familiar face on conservative media outlets and held a brief role as spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security earlier this year.
“I am confident that Katie will deliver strong results for our Country as the next White House Press Secretary, as she has the respect of, and will work fantastically with, the Media, the American People, and my Administration,” Trump remarked on Friday.
Leavitt, who resigned to prioritize her family, extended her congratulations to Zacharia for her new role.
“Serving as White House Press Secretary is one of the most challenging yet fun jobs on the planet,” she shared on social media after Zacharia’s appointment. “As I told the President, Katie has my full support and I will be cheering for her and the entire team at the White House every day,” she added.
Zacharia expressed her gratitude for the opportunity and shared her eagerness to collaborate with the press.
“I look forward to working with the White House press corps, and with reporters across the country, to get that record out,” she said. “Following the fabulous Karoline Leavitt is a high standard, and one worth meeting.”
As her first press briefing approaches, the White House hinted at the significance of the event, stating, “You won’t want to miss it.”
Thanking President Trump for the privilege of her new role, Zacharia remarked, “Serving President Trump and the American people at this critical 250-year mark is the honor of a lifetime. President Trump has shown America that we can be great again.”
