Katy Perry Speaks Out for Mexican Communities

Celebrities often lend their voices to political causes, and Katy Perry is no different. Recently, she expressed feeling “abused and hurt” after receiving criticism for a space flight, but now she’s turning her attention to the issues faced by the Mexican community.

Perry stated, “Los Angeles is shaped by three flags: Spain, Mexico, and the United States. Over time, the borders have shifted and power dynamics have changed, yet the people—particularly those of indigenous and brown heritage—have always remained.” She further asserted that, “In 2025, the descendants of those communities are treated like criminals in their own land.”

While discussing the historical context, she referenced the original name of Los Angeles, suggesting that the outcry and protests are justified. As she put it, the city was founded by Mexican settlers back in 1781, emphasizing its roots in Mexican culture and labor.

This sparked a response from Pat Gray, who, on his show “Pat Gray Unleashed,” humorously questioned her portrayal of history. He pointed out that while California was indeed under Mexican control for a short time, the territory had historical ties to both Spanish and Mexican rule for much longer periods. He remarked, “The history is quite complex. The land was fought over and acquired through war, which, let’s face it, is how many countries expanded over time.”

So, it seems there’s a lively debate here, blending celebrity views with historical interpretation. The nuances of history can be a bit murky, and perhaps neither side has the whole story. It’s a reminder that, in discussions about heritage and justice, voices from all sides deserve to be heard.
