Kayla Nicole refutes claims of undermining other women after making remarks about Taylor Swift through her costume

What Bad Blood?

Kayla Nicole has responded to accusations of “putting other women down” with her Halloween costume, though many fans feel it was aimed at Taylor Swift.

On a recent episode of the “Pregame” podcast, she explained that her costume was meant to honor Toni Braxton. She said she wanted to “celebrate” the artist during a vacation last month, dressing in an outfit from Braxton’s “He Wasn’t Man Enough” music video.

“Halloween is a time for me to step out of my usual self and dress as someone I admire, someone whose work I appreciate,” Nicole, 34, shared with listeners.

She expressed confusion over the criticism, asking, “What are celebrities supposed to dress up as? A doctor? Superwoman?”

Nicole firmly stated, “I’m not here to degrade other women; I’m here to celebrate them.”

Despite her intentions, fans have interpreted her choice as a potential jab at Swift and Kelce.

To clarify, Nicole reiterated that she aimed to “congratulate” Braxton, insisting that her costume should not be seen as offensive.

“Every Halloween, I try to up my game. I want to bring a performance similar to Heidi Klum’s,” she added.

She recommended that listeners watch Braxton’s music video, hinting that the plot twist might surprise them, as Braxton’s character deals with a cheating ex and his new wife.

“Clock it,” she teased. “Just watch your watch, baby.”

Before this, Nicole discussed her costume inspiration in a prior podcast episode, revealing that it came not from the pop star but rather from her childhood best friend named Taylor. She recalled a specific moment traveling home together, with Braxton’s song playing.

She even joked about the costume situation, asking, “What should I do? A doctor? Superwoman?”

After facing backlash, Nicole disabled her X account, although she hasn’t made further comments on the matter.

Previously, she remarked on another pop star’s Halloween choice, sharing that she once dressed as Teyana Taylor, the then-wife of her ex, Iman Shumpert, in an eye-catching costume.

“I found out he dumped me via text for this singer and actress who was big at the time,” she explained, subtly hinting at Swift’s identity.

In a recent interview, Nicole referred to her Halloween outfit as the “craziest” thing she’s done, while Swift responded harshly, calling Nicole’s comments “sick and petty” and claiming they were offensive and purposeful.
