Kaylee Gain’s father details what led to near-fatal fight

Tragic Missouri teen Kaylee Gein suffered a brain hemorrhage, was unable to walk on her own, and was “repeatedly assaulted” as she struggled to recover from brutal, life-altering school violence. “We’re talking,” her father exclusively revealed to the Post.

Clinton Gane, 41, also admitted that her daughter and rival Monice Descroux, who hit her head on the pavement, had been exchanging insults in the weeks before the March 8 match.

Jamie Gein, his father and Kaylee’s stepmother, told the Post that the 16-year-old’s devices were thoroughly examined to understand what caused the videotaped crash. The clash made global headlines.

Sources told The Post that the teens were part of rival friend groups from Hazelwood East High School near St. Louis.

The conflict finally boiled over after Kaylie got into an argument with Decroux’s friend at school, and the episode led to her suspension the next day.

The altercation led to new phone threats between Gein and Decroux (who is now charged with felony assault), and the two girls agreed to a one-on-one confrontation. said her father, adding that he did not want to reveal the exact contents of the message.

“They both agreed to a fight to meet and settle things,” he said.

The heartbroken father’s current wife, Jamie, also visits the child in the hospital every day. She said the two teenagers had made the “horrible decision” to respond to the dispute with violence.

The couple denied that Cayley was bullying Decroux, 15, and said their messages to each other were equally hostile.

Jamie Gane said of Decroo’s choice to slam Caylee’s head into the concrete, leaving her visibly convulsing on the floor, saying: “The justice system overreached and caused her death. I hope they decide that this is the case.”

“And it doesn’t matter who said what to whom before everything happened.”

The couple also said they were heartbroken to see Caylee unconscious after the altercation.

“When I first saw her in the hospital, I was really worried, really worried…but we’re at the hospital every day. We just want to be by her side every day.”

The couple also gave The Post an inside look at Gein’s grueling recovery process at a St. Louis hospital.

“Some days are good, some days are better than others,” Clinton said. “Some days she laughs a little, and other days she’s quiet.”

Mr Gein said Caylee remained weak and unsteady after suffering a skull fracture and a brain bleed and needed assistance to walk.

Monice Decroux is charged with felony assault for slamming Gein’s head into the ground.

“She’ll ask us why she’s in the hospital,” Gein said. “She doesn’t remember her match or the days before. We told her what happened, but she didn’t say much.”

Kaylie spends her days primarily in speech and exercise therapy sessions as she tries to recover from her injury.

“She talks, but she doesn’t always make sense,” Jamie said. “It’s like she’s talking over and over again.”

However, she still recognizes her parents.

“When she sees me, she says, ‘Hello, Dad,'” he said. “She knows it’s me.”

On the day of the altercation, Gane and Decroux had met in an area known for youth fights, about a mile away from the school.

Before Decroux could gain the upper hand, the two fired their guns and mounted Gein, repeatedly slamming his skull into the pavement.

Prosecutors are now seeking to charge Decroux as an adult in the case, and a hearing on the matter is scheduled for May 1.

Ms. Decroux’s parents and lawyer told the media that she was an honor student who spoke multiple languages and played the violin in the school band.

They allege the fight was due to Gein bullying their daughter, but Caylee’s father and stepmother strongly dispute this claim as untrue.

Clinton also vowed to be by her daughter’s side when she eventually recovers.

“It’s been really hard. It’s been so slow. She’s set to live with me when she gets out of the hospital. She needs that stability and structure again,” he added.
