Keir Starmer to set out new pledges to show Labour government is ‘delivering change’ – UK politics live | Politics

Starmer to deliver 'reset' speech

There are 5 missions, and, first 6 steps. And now we are gearing up for the next target that Keir Starmer's government wants to achieve by spring 2029.

It is expected to be a critical moment when we will hear a “plan for change” aimed at convincing disillusioned voters that he can turn things around.

Will it be a set of achievable targets, or a set of millstones that will hang around the Prime Minister's neck for the next four years?

Reiner says change has already begun.

She says it has done more for workers than the Conservative government has done in years. She says Labor will not be afraid to be bold and deliver the country's most ambitious plans to put workers at the heart.

“We will deliver the most ambitious but achievable Government program in a generation to build a fairer Britain where families have more money.

“Fair pay for a fair day’s work, a good job, and an opportunity to grow.”

The reboot attempt, billed as Mr Starmer's “transformation plan”, had an eventful first five months in office.

The huge taxes and spending budget was welcomed by activists calling for more spending on public services, but it undermined business confidence and sparked farmer protests. Mr Starmer also revealed that ministers were enjoying freebies, and that his chief of staff, Sue Gray, had resigned after being found guilty of fraud over the loss of a work phone. It is also facing a row over the resignation of its chief secretary, Louise Hay.

Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch billed Thursday's speech as an “urgent reset”.

But Mr Starmer will insist the new “milestone” is the next step in his stated “mission” to form a Labor government. But it is also a tacit admission that those missions are being abandoned because they are too elaborate or unachievable.

There are reports that Starmer is planning to restart his premiership by promising to crack down on crime.

In a speech in which Labor hopes to set out the government's “next steps”, the Prime Minister set out six “milestones” including living standards, the NHS backlog, energy security, housebuilding and getting children ready for school. Detail your goals.

Mr Starmer also plans to send in 13,000 extra neighborhood police and a named “bobby of every beat”.

He said there would be nominated and contactable police officers in every region of England and Wales as part of a commitment to crack down on crime and anti-social behavior.

Each force will also have an anti-social behavior officer tasked with devising ways to address concerns raised by local residents and businesses.
