Keith Hernandez caused a hilarious mess while in the SNY booth for Sunday’s game against the Mets.
During the game, when Hernandez tried to mention his former 1986 Mets teammate Howard Johnson (Hojo), he instead referred to his 21.5-year-old cat, Haji.
“Haji. Oh, that’s not Haji, Hojo,” he said, and Ron Darling and Gary Cohen laughed out loud at the gaffe.
Some fans commented on SNY’s X post about the mistake, mostly enjoying the fact that Hernandez’s cat appeared on the broadcast.
“Grandpa Hadji is always thinking about Keith. I love him.” posted by a user Comes with a laughing emoji of a cat crying.
Hernandez and Johnson overlapped at Queen’s from 1985 to 1989, helping the Mets win their second World Series in 1986.
Johnson spent most of his 14-year career with the Mets, winning two All-Star awards and two Silver Slugger awards in nine years, hitting .251 with an OPS of .801 in 1,154 games.
After that, he served as first base coach and hitting coach for the Mariners and Mets.
Hernandez spent 10 years in St. Louis before coming to New York, earning the rest of his All-Star, Gold Glove and Silver Slugger honors during his 17-year career.
The Mets sit in third place in the National League East with a record of 7 wins and 8 losses, ending their series with the Royals with a win on Sunday.
The Mets won 2-0, scoring the winning run in the 8th inning on Harrison Bader’s infield hit.
