Kelly Clarkson finally spoke up on social media nearly a month after the passing of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.
The singer, known for “Bed of You,” commemorated the anniversary of her 2002 “American Idol” win with nostalgic photos from the season one finale shared on Instagram. She expressed gratitude, noting, “Thank you to everyone who took the time to call and vote for me 23 years ago. Winning ‘American Idol’ changed my life, and I’m forever thankful for the support I’ve received over the years.”
Clarkson continued, “There’s something special about finding your purpose and passion, and being able to make a living from it. Thank you, as always.”
Just over a week ago, the 43-year-old singer made her first public appearance at LAX following the death of her former talent manager last month.
Blackstock, who had children with Clarkson—11-year-old River and 9-year-old Remington—passed away on August 7th after a prolonged battle with cancer, at the age of 48.
Clarkson revealed on Instagram that she decided to cancel the rest of her August Las Vegas shows to focus on her family during Blackstock’s illness, thanking fans for their understanding.
The couple had finalized their contentious divorce in 2022, but sources mentioned that Clarkson devoted significant time caring for Blackstock in his last months.
Aside from cancelling part of her residency in July, she had also abruptly stepped away from her talk show in March, with insiders suggesting it was to be there for her ailing ex.
“It’s been so tiring and sad,” a source shared. “Kelly not only cared for Brandon, but worked hard too. Despite their complicated divorce, he was still the man she loved and the father of her kids.”
Blackstock’s obituary mentioned he had been with his former assistant, Britney Marie Jones, who was described as “a beautiful, loving partner.”
Clarkson is set to return to her daytime talk show later this month, with the seventh season premiering on September 29th. Production will start the week of September 8th, and her Vegas residency is anticipated to resume in November.
