Kelsea Ballerini has stirred up some speculation regarding her recent breakup with Chase Stokes, thanks to a cryptic comment on Instagram.
Fans noticed Ballerini’s interaction on a post by fellow musician Ashley Cooke, who shared an unreleased song touching on themes of infidelity, referencing a man with “wandering eyes.” The lyrics, “Whiskey night, wandering eyes cause confusion / Hiding your phone raises questions / It’s the talk of the town and the truth begins to spread / Don’t you know that when you cross the line, you’re wrong?” seemed particularly poignant.
Ballerini’s comment, simply “Hmm,” was followed by Cooke’s response of “Okay.” This exchange came just after news broke early in February that Ballerini and Stokes had called it quits again after a brief reconciliation.
A source revealed, “Kelsey and Chase have broken up again, just recently,” adding that despite their feelings for each other, their lives are currently in “completely different places.” That source noted the challenges they face in trying to blend their lives together, with Ballerini’s growing career possibly creating some tension.

Ballerini, who’s 32, released her album Patterns in 2024, which explored her relationship with Stokes. She referred to it as an “in-between moment,” emphasizing the process of navigating their relationship and how they’ve both worked to unpack their feelings together.
