Kelsey Grammer Reflects on Fatherhood After Welcoming Eighth Child at 70

After becoming a father again at the age of 70, Kelsey Grammer has been thinking about the lessons he wishes he had known as a younger dad back in the 1980s. The actor, who first became a father at 28 with his daughter Spencer in 1983, recently announced the arrival of his eighth son, Christopher.

In an interview, Grammer shared some candid parenting advice for his younger self. He chuckled and said, “Maybe you should be a little more patient. With my first child, I never understood how a child could cry all day long.”

He reminisced, saying, “Wow, this is really rewarding,” but also expressed the challenges, noting, “How am I going to get through this?” Despite the struggles, he found a deep connection with Spencer during her childhood, although he admitted they don’t see each other as often anymore.

Grammer also spoke fondly of his children, mentioning his daughter Greer, 33, with ex-wife Barry Buckner, and his other kids, including Mason, 24, and Jude Gordon, 21, with ex-wife Camille Grammer. Currently married to flight attendant Kate Walsh, he and Christopher share a daughter, Faith, 13, and two sons, Gabriel, 11, and Auden, 9.

Addressing how his kids perceive him, he said, “I think they all have their own sense of who their father was.” He acknowledged that older children often see their father through their mother’s perspective and admitted, “Well, I let their mother down quite a bit.”

Yet, he has worked to redefine his relationships with each of his children, noting, “Some with varying degrees of success. As you know, every situation is different.” Grammer remains hopeful, saying, “The door is not closed yet,” emphasizing the ongoing nature of family connections.

He announced the birth of his youngest during the “Pod Meets World” podcast and later expressed to People magazine how joyful the family is to welcome the new member. “Everyone is having a really good time,” he shared, proud of the closeness they have achieved as a family.

In his latest film, “Turbulence,” Grammer portrays a hot air balloon pilot. The film involves a romantic couple facing danger from a mysterious third passenger linked to one of their pasts. The cast also features actors like Hella Hilmar and Jeremy Irvin.

Discussing his role, Grammer felt an instinctive connection to the character, noting the similarities to a past role he played. He described the character as a capable captain who understands his environment, adding it was a refreshing challenge to play someone more grounded and protective.

Filming the movie was physically taxing for him, especially since he dealt with a foot injury during production. Despite the challenge, he managed to navigate through the demanding scenes, highlighting his determination to deliver a strong performance.

As for what he hopes audiences take away from “Turbulence,” he emphasized the timing and essence of the story, suggesting it’s about affirming one’s place and resilience. The film is set to hit theaters and digital platforms on December 12th.
