Kemp hints he voted for Trump as poll shows tight Ga. race with Biden

A new poll shows former President Donald Trump leading President Biden in the battleground state of Georgia, nearly eight months after the anticipated rematch.

The poll showed President Trump favoring Biden 46% to 42%, down from a 6-point lead about a month ago. Emerson College Poll/The Hill. 12% of voters were undecided.

Similarly, among undecided voters, Trump won with 52% and Biden with 48%, according to the poll.

Georgia, once considered a reliably red state, suddenly became competitive, choosing Biden in 2020 and sending two Democrats to the Senate. It was the first time since 1992 that Georgia was in the blues in a presidential election.

The state received 16 of the 270 electoral votes needed to win the president. It is generally believed to be in the top six or seven battleground states that will determine the 2024 winner.

President Trump was furious in the aftermath of his loss in Georgia, infamously calling Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to stress his need to “find” the 11,780 votes needed to overturn his defeat.

This led to an investigation by the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, which ultimately led to 13 charges, of which President Trump has pleaded not guilty and denies wrongdoing.

Throughout the process, Trump’s relationship with Georgia Governor Brian Kemp soured. Trump endorsed one of Kemp’s Republican primary rivals in the 2022 midterm elections and publicly attacked him.

But Kemp hinted Tuesday that he voted for Trump in Georgia’s Republican primary.

“I voted in the Republican presidential primary on Friday, and I have said for a long time that I support the candidate,” he told reporters.

“Well, I think he’s better than Joe Biden. It’s that simple,” Kemp explained when asked how people could vote for Trump.

“I know that when Secretary Raffensperger chose this day, he thought we might become the defining state. After all, at this point we’re kind of an afterthought. It becomes a thing,” Kemp said.
