Colorado Republican Rep. Ken Buck said Thursday that his decision to resign from Congress early is intended to hurt Rep. Lauren Boebert’s chances of victory in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District. denied the claim that there was.
Buck announced earlier this year that his current term would be his last in the House. But on Tuesday, he announced that his resignation would take effect on March 22 and that a special election in the 4th District would be held on June 25 to temporarily fill his vacated seat. This surprised his colleagues.
Boebert, a Republican, denounced the move as a “gift to a single party” and claimed establishment Republicans were trying to “rig” the election, adding: “I’m winning by 25 points.” he claimed.
Buck responded to these claims in an interview with the Colorado Sun on Friday. He told the paper he was “ridiculous” and said he was “not giving anyone an advantage or disadvantage” in the race for the seat.

“I’ve been doing my best to stay out of this primary,” Buck said.
According to the Colorado Sun, Buck’s decision to leave Congress early was due to his growing frustration with the gridlock and his desire to campaign for electoral reform to improve the quality of candidates elected. He explained that it is based on desire.
“I want to be an advocate for change in our system,” Buck told the outlet.
He also said the timing of the decision was intended to align the special election with Colorado’s June 25 primary, saving taxpayers money.

“I thought that was really important,” Buck said.
Boebert said Wednesday that she would not run in the special election to fill Buck’s vacancy. That would require him to vacate his own seat.

“If we force an unnecessary special election on the same day as the primary election, voters will be confused, a lame-duck representative will be elected from the first day, and the 4th District will remain without a representative for more than three months. We deserve better,” Boebert said. In the post of X.

Ms. Boebert currently represents Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District. But he announced earlier this year that he would run for re-election in Colorado’s heavily Republican 4th Congressional District.
The move is widely seen as a strategic choice after Democrat Adam Frisch fell just 546 votes short of defeating Boebert in the 2022 midterm elections.
