Kendrick Perkins allegedly banned from Celtics parade as ugly feud erupts

This is a verbal spat between former Celtics teammates.

A feud erupted between the former 2008 champions after Brian Scalabrine claimed the Celtics purposely did not invite Kendrick Perkins to their 2024 championship celebration in Boston.

“No, no, no, no, no, no,” Scalabrine said on his SiriusXM show when asked if Perkins had been invited. Transcribed by Boston.com“A big scarlet letter. … For Kendrick Perkins, that’s really unwelcome.”

Perkins, now an ESPN commentator, blasted Scalabrine, calling him a “coward.”

“Now I think Skull is a coward.” “It’s a big deal,” Perkins said Monday on Boston’s “Felger and Maz.”“If you say something like that in public, and I reach out to you privately, at least call me back.

“Am I the only member of the 2008 group who was absent from Duck Boat? No, I’m not. [Eddie] My friend House was there. My best friend Leon Poe was there. Skull was there. Paul was there. [Pierce] There were only 11 people there, and to be honest, if I had received an invitation, I wouldn’t have received it. I didn’t know we were supposed to get an invitation, but 9 times out of 10 I would have turned it down, anyway.

“It’s not because I don’t love the city of Boston, because I do. It’s not because I don’t love the organization, because I do. … But it’s not our moment. It’s 2024’s moment. Let’s give them their moment.”

Scalabrine and Perkins won a championship with the Celtics in 2008 and were teammates from 2005 to 2010, and both now work in the media.

While Scalabrine calls Celtics games, he is far less likely to be critical, but Perkins, in his role with the national team, has the room to be far more critical.

Perkins may have offended some people by saying Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla has the brain of a bird (pun coming soon).

“They have two Joe Mazzullas.” Perkins said in a January Boston.com interview.“They have a guy who has the philosophy, ‘We’re going to shoot more 3-pointers than you.’ When they shoot 3-pointers, he’s at his best.’ And the other Joe Mazzulla just stands there.

“And you’d think that if you took his brain out and put it inside a bird, the bird would start flying backwards. You know what, we’ve got Joe Mazzulla. You know why I say that? Because he doesn’t give these guys any open chances.”

Perkins explained that while he still has love for the Celtics, he believes his time with the organization is over and he has moved on to his career.

Scalabrine said he would call her back, but he never did.

“If that’s how you feel, and what you’re saying might be true, I don’t know, it might be, I don’t know, if that’s how you feel, okay, if you’re saying it publicly,” Perkins said. “So if I call you and you don’t pick up and you say you’ll call later and you don’t want to have an adult conversation about it and you always answer the phone at some other time, I think that’s an issue.”

He added: “Right now I feel like you’re avoiding me.”
