RFK Jr. and Hegseth to Compete in Fitness Challenge
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently paid a visit to the Department of Defense, where he issued a challenge to Secretary Pete Hegseth. They are set to compete in a pull-up and push-up contest, dubbed the “Pete and Bobby Challenge.” This initiative comes as leaders from the Trump administration are advocating for Americans to shift from being “fat” to “fit.”
The challenge entails performing 50 pull-ups and 100 push-ups in under five minutes, all while in the company of military personnel from the Navy and Marine Corps. This friendly competition was first shared through a Fox News digital show.
“Today’s big challenge is 50 pull-ups and 100 push-ups. I’m trying to beat five minutes,” said Kennedy, appearing casual in a t-shirt and jeans.
This event aims to promote “American Health Again Again,” with a message encouraging healthier eating habits and fitness within the military to better serve the country.
Trump Aims to Reinstate Fitness Standards
In light of alarming statistics about army fitness, Hegseth commented on social media, expressing concern about the current state of military standards and the need for change: “This is what happens when standards are ignored. We fit, not fat.”
During the five-minute competition, while Hegseth completed the challenge just over the five-minute mark, he still emerged victorious over Kennedy. “I was about 5:25,” he mentioned in a video. “You were right behind me,” he added, acknowledging the 71-year-old Kennedy’s effort.
With several Marines excelling in the challenge—completing it in under four minutes—it was clear they were in great shape.
“President Trump encouraged this initiative,” Kennedy mentioned in a video, sharing that it’s the start of their campaign to inspire Americans toward fitness, emphasizing the importance of exercise.
The duo also extended their challenge to other cabinet members, specifically targeting Transportation Secretary Shawn Duffy. Hegseth joked, “Commander Duffy, can you take on the Bobby Challenge with Pete? 50 pull-ups, 100 push-ups—can you do it in under five minutes?”
Trump has publicly supported Kennedy’s efforts, promoting healthy eating and the “Maha movement” as an initiative for physical fitness, which he claims is “arguably the largest combat squad in world history.”
Trump Reinstates Presidential Fitness Tests
Trump has also revitalized the President’s Council on fitness for children and reintroduced fitness standards for American youth, replacing Obama’s Youth Fitness Program with his own executive order. This directive encourages schools to recognize excellence in physical education.
America’s Health Movement
“Thank you, President Trump, for being a role model. The President’s fitness campaign aims to make America healthy again—less fat,” Kennedy said. “We’re working together to create a strong force of young individuals ready to defend our nation.”
