Kennedy Burke Makes a Limited Return to the New York Liberty

Los Angeles – Kennedy Burke is making a return, though it’s somewhat tentative.

After sitting out for the past 2.5 weeks due to calf issues, she’s expected to be dressed for Tuesday’s matchup against the Sparks, but reports indicate she probably won’t hit the court, per a team source.

Initially, Burke was marked as “outing out” on Liberty’s injury report released Monday night. Unfortunately, she isn’t the only one sidelined; three other players are also out, leaving the team with just eight active players for the game. Sources suggest that Burke will only play if absolutely necessary.

Isabel Harrison, Brenna Stewart, and Nyara Sabury did not travel with the team to Los Angeles.

Harrison is currently under concussion protocol after not participating in the second half of Saturday’s game. On the other hand, Sabbury struggles with a knee issue, while Stewart is nursing a bone bruise in her knee and hopes to return before her birthday on August 27.

The current plan is to let Burke be available for Tuesday’s game, with her official return possibly slated for Wednesday when Liberty faces off in Las Vegas.

Burke hasn’t played a complete game since July 26 due to her calf strain. In fact, she was the last Liberty player to leave the court after a morning shootaround.

She had been experiencing mild tension in her right calf since July 28, which had initially put her out for two to four weeks. Having missed the last seven games, Burke appears ready to step in, particularly since the team’s roster situation is quite challenging.

Before her injury, Burke had been performing well in the season, averaging 8.4 points with an impressive shooting percentage of 49.6% through 27 games.
