Rep. Jasmine Crockett Launches Senate Campaign Amid Skepticism
This month, Rep. Jasmine Crockett kicked off her Senate campaign, and Sen. John Kennedy had some pointed comments about her chances. He characterized her run for the Senate as unserious and disconnected from what Texas voters want.
“They need to tell her that the voices in her head aren’t real,” Kennedy remarked on “My View with Lara Trump.”
Crockett’s campaign launched with a direct critique of former President Donald Trump, who has long been one of her adversaries. In her announcement, she shared a video on X featuring past derogatory remarks from Trump while showcasing her own political stance.
Her candidacy reflects the deep political divides in Texas, quickly drawing backlash from Republicans. Kennedy argued that her views do not align with the preferences of the state’s electorate.
Crockett Calls for Ethics Guidelines for Supreme Court
“I’m tired of senators sitting idle while President Trump takes your money, cuts Social Security, trims Medicare, and hands out tax cuts to billionaires. I’m over it,” Crockett stated during her campaign launch in Dallas.
However, Kennedy dismissed her chances, suggesting she was wrong on every issue and predicting she would ultimately fail in her candidacy and exit Congress.
He added, “We don’t want people coming to Congress who don’t actually want to be here.”
Crockett’s Controversial Remarks on Trump Supporters
“If individuals are unhappy, please don’t slam the door on your way out,” he remarked, underscoring his view of her campaign.
Crockett’s supporters regard her as an emerging figure in the Democratic Party. She boasts a strong social media presence and regularly makes news with her forthright style.
Concerns on the Viability of Her Campaign
In the primary race for the Senate seat, Crockett will be competing against Democratic state Rep. James Talarico. Notably, former Dallas Rep. Colin Allred withdrew from the race just before Crockett announced her own candidacy.
Kennedy reiterated his belief that the Texas Senate seat will stay in Republican control.
“The people of Texas will never accept her message,” he asserted. “I’m not sure why she’s pursuing this, but in America, you’re free to make choices—even if they’re not wise.”
