A student at Georgia’s Kennesaw State University was shot and killed by an “armed intruder” on campus, authorities confirmed.

“Kennesaw State authorities have confirmed that a female student was shot and killed on campus,” the school said in a warning on its website. “A suspect has been taken into custody.”

The school said, “There is no threat to the campus community. Kennesaw State University Police are working with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and will provide updated information as it becomes available.”

The female student was shot dead around 4 p.m.

In an earlier warning on social media, the university said: “An armed intruder has been reported at Kennesaw State University. Please seek shelter in a safe location until further notice.”

By 4:45 p.m., the university said it had the “all clear” and the suspect “no longer poses a threat to campus.”

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and the university are investigating.

The shooting occurred three months after Laken Riley, a 22-year-old Augusta University nursing student, was killed on Feb. 22 while jogging on a path around the University of Georgia campus.

Jose Antonio Ibarra, 26, a Venezuelan national who was living in the United States illegally, was charged with murder in what police described as a “crime of opportunity.”
