Kenny Bednarek pushes Noah Lyles during intense scene at US track and field championships

US Track and Field Championships: Lyles and Bednarek’s Tense Encounter

Noah Lyles and Kenny Bednarek put on quite a show during the men’s 200m at the US track and field championships, but things really heated up afterward.

After the race, Lyles confronted Bednarek with a steely gaze as he walked past him, just 10 meters past the finish line. The tension was palpable.

Bednarek eventually approached Lyles, and their interaction turned intense. “Noah will be Noah. If he wants to stare at me, that’s fine,” Bednarek remarked to reporters later. “But I’ve run five rounds while he’s fresh. He can line up again when we’re both fresh and see what happens. I’m sure I can beat him.”

When asked about the specifics of what Lyles said, Bednarek didn’t go into detail. “What he said doesn’t matter. It’s more about what he did. It’s disrespectful, and I won’t tolerate it,” he stated.

The two athletes also had a sharp exchange before a scheduled NBC Sports interview began. Bednarek told Lyles, “I told you, if you have issues, I’m here for a talk.” Lyles replied, “What do you know? You’re right. Let’s talk after this.”

Lyles, however, declined to elaborate when asked why he chose to provoke Bednarek post-race, simply saying, “I have no comments on the coach’s orders.”

During the race, Lyles managed to catch up with Bednarek just as they hit the final turn, quickly gaining speed. “Once I saw how far Kenny was, I knew if I could keep him close, I could catch him,” Lyles explained. “As we approached the 60-meter mark, I was thinking, ‘Yeah, I’m coming for him.’ He seemed to run out of steam while I was just getting started.”

With this win, Lyles claimed his fifth national championship title in the 200m. He is also the reigning world champion in both the 100m and 200m events, in addition to being the Olympic champion in the 100m.
