Tragic Shooting at Kentucky Church

The gunman responsible for the devastating shooting at a church in Kentucky had previously been designated “This Week’s Wanted.” On the day of the incident, he launched a violent attack just hours before a scheduled domestic violence hearing.

Guy House, 47, was reportedly seeking the mother of his three children when he entered the Richmond Road Baptist Church in Lexington on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, his actions led to the deaths of the woman’s mother and sister, along with injuring others, before he was ultimately shot by police.

According to reports, House had a significant criminal history and had a domestic violence case set for the following morning. It’s unclear if the domestic violence incident involved the mother of his children.

Witnesses indicated that after arriving at the church and discovering that his intended target was not there, House exclaimed, “Well, someone has to die,” just before he began firing.

Social media activities related to House revealed disturbing connections, highlighting that the family he targeted, known as “Honky Kong,” had a long-standing relationship with law enforcement. Back in 2022, he was named “Wanted Person of the Week” by local authorities as part of a crime prevention initiative.

His criminal background included charges for possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and other offenses related to theft and evading law enforcement.

House’s troubling behavior escalated during a traffic stop near Lexington’s airport leading up to the shooting. He carjacked a vehicle, fired at a state trooper, and fled to the church located about 16 miles away.

The victims were identified as 72-year-old Beverly Gum and 32-year-old Christina Combs. Their husbands—both long-term pastors at Richmond Road Baptist Church—sustained injuries during the shooting, with one being in serious condition and the other stable.

City Police Chief Lawrence Weathers indicated that the suspect may have had prior connections with individuals at the church. Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn described the congregation as tight-knit.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear expressed his condolences, urging prayers for all those impacted by this senseless violence, and commending the swift response from law enforcement agencies involved.

State Attorney General Russell Coleman stated that his office is fully prepared to assist local and state agencies in their investigation. He remarked on the violence that had “broken into the Lord’s house,” conveying how deeply this incident had shocked the community.
