Kentucky mother Redaja Williams killed while dropping her child off at school.

Two young mothers were tragically shot while walking their child to school in Louisville, Kentucky. This incident sparked a strong condemnation from the city’s police chief, who described the murderer as “absolutely pathetic.”

Ledaha Williams, 23, was taking her child to a bus stop early Wednesday morning when she succumbed to her injuries at Louisville Health Hospital.

Fortunately, her child was unharmed in the attack, which marks the second shooting at this particular bus stop within a week. A report by WDRB detailed the ongoing concerns.

“Children should be able to go to school without fearing violence in the mornings,” stated Louisville Metro Police Chief Paul Humphrey during a press conference. He seemed visibly shaken by the recent events.

Humphrey emphasized that it is “absolutely unacceptable” to confront such violence multiple times in a week, labeling the situation as truly pathetic.

The suspect remains at large, described as a young Black man dressed in a red hoodie and black sweatpants. Police have begun reviewing security footage to gather more information.

On the same day, authorities detained a 15-year-old boy near Shawnee High School for questioning. However, they later concluded that he wasn’t the shooter, even though he had been present during the incident.

Humphrey pointed out that several schoolchildren were at the bus stop when the shooting occurred, expressing disbelief that anyone should live in fear just trying to attend school.

Although the murder rate in Louisville has been decreasing in recent years, he acknowledged the need for further action and improvement.

Williams is survived by two children, aged 2 and 7, and her family is reeling from the tragic loss. “My niece was killed in front of my daughter and all the kids at the bus stop,” said her aunt, Donna Cole, at a news conference. “I’m traumatized. I fear for my family.”

This shocking incident occurred just six days after another shooting at the same bus stop, which coincided with the first day of the Jefferson County public schools.

The 15-year-old boy facing charges is listed with 34 offenses, including endangering a minor and possessing a handgun, according to WDRB.

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg also shared his frustrations during a press conference alongside Chief Humphrey. “I felt nothing but anger today,” he said. “I’m furious at the person who took this woman’s life and those who fired at the bus stop last week. It’s disheartening that we still face such issues in 2025.”
