Kentucky Senate Republican Candidate Andy Barr Funding Support for Pro-Amnesty Republicans

Andy Barr, a Republican Senate candidate from Kentucky, is financially backing a newly introduced bill aimed at granting pardons to undocumented foreigners.

Barr is looking to succeed the resigning Mitch McConnell. He stated, “In the Senate, no one fights harder to close borders and remove illegal immigrants.”

On his campaign website, Barr mentioned, “I believe that we must firmly address border security and immigration issues.”

Kentucky Republicans have also criticized some members of the Maga movement who aim to drive out undocumented individuals, labeling them as “Nativists,” drawing connections to Donald Trump’s rhetoric.

Barr noted that sectors such as agriculture and hospitality in Kentucky rely heavily on legal workers. He expressed pride in representing those interests.

Some Kentucky Republicans argue that the so-called “Nativists” are at odds with the needs of the state’s agricultural community, asserting the importance of balancing immigration with rule of law.

The conversation around immigration reform gained attention when Maria Elvira Salazar from Florida introduced the Dignity Act, a bill that provides pardons for undocumented immigrants, supported by several other Republican lawmakers.

Former Breitbart Executive Chairman Steve Bannon described these Republicans as “traitors” to their party’s foundational principles.

The National Review criticized the bill, urging Congress to reject it as just another attempt to bypass public sentiment that has long demanded stricter immigration laws.

The Trump administration previously dismissed the idea, clarifying that the president does not support pardons for undocumented individuals.

It appears that Barr is backing Salazar’s bill along with several other lawmakers.

Through his Leadership PAC, Barr has contributed $10,500 to Salazar’s Congressional Campaign since 2020, alongside several donations to other sponsors of the proposed amnesty legislation.

Jessica Vaughn, a policy director at the Center for Immigration Studies, commented that Salazar’s suggestion regarding Trump offering pardons was disingenuous.

She suggested that it undermines his stance and may not align with his immigration policy goals.

Valadao has expressed a long-standing interest in addressing immigration reform and had previously served against legislation regarding DACA.

Bacon has shown support for pardons for undocumented immigrants, including those under DACA, suggesting a need for a balanced approach to immigration.
