Kentucky’s Second-in-Command Sounds the Alarm: Education Department on the Brink of Chaos

Kentucky Lt. Gov. & Jacqueline Coleman (D) expresses concern about the future of the Department of Education, following President Trump’s executive order to dismantle it.

“I’m worried about the message I’m sending on a macro level, and that message is that the United States doesn’t care about investing in children and families who need it most,” Coleman said on “The Hill Sunday”.

Trump’s executive order acknowledges that Congressional action is necessary to close the Department of Education, but orders Education Secretary Linda McMahon to take steps to repeal it.

“We will sign an executive order to begin elimination of the Federal Department of Education,” Trump said at the White House signing ceremony. “The useful features of the department are… saved and fully preserved,” he added.

Coleman added, “children in low-income communities, children who rely on Pell grants to go to college, children who rely on special education services should not question whether those services are available based on who the governor and lieutenant governor are.”

Oka reached out to the White House and the Department of Education for comments.
