Jets’ First-Round Pick Kenyon Sadiq Receives Draft Call

When Kenyon Sadiq, the Jets’ first-round pick, received the call on Thursday night informing him he’d been drafted, he initially suspected it might be a prank.

“That was honestly my biggest fear, especially thinking about Shedur,” Sadiq said, reflecting on the emotional weight of the moment. “Getting a prank call wouldn’t be fun at all. But, thankfully, it was the real deal.”

The Jets selected Sadiq, who hails from Oregon State, with the 16th pick overall.

The club’s social media team shared a clip of the moment when the Jets’ war room made the call to Sadiq.

“Coach, I’m really excited,” Sadiq expressed to Jets coach Aaron Glenn on the phone. “At first, I thought maybe this was just a prank.”

“No, it’s not a prank, brother,” Glenn assured him. “You’re going to be a Jet. We’ve had our eye on you for a while.”

As Sadiq continued speaking with the coaching staff, his doubts melted away, and he began to realize this was a genuine offer.

“That’s when I started chatting with individual coaches and management,” he recalled. “I thought, ‘This is real!’ and I couldn’t contain my excitement.”

Notably, last year’s draft saw Sanders fall into the fifth round due to a prank carried out by Jax Ulbrich, the son of a former Jets coordinator, which resulted in hefty fines for the NFL personnel involved.

Jets GM Darren Mousey mentioned he would discuss a contract extension with Breece Hall’s agent but noted the franchise tag had been placed on Hall for now. They have until July 15 to finalize a long-term deal, or Hall will play under the tag this season.

Mousey commented, “I’ve got a list for next week, and this is definitely one of those priorities. We plan to talk with Brees’ camp soon.”

On the third day of the draft, the Jets selected defensive tackle Darrell Jackson Jr. from Florida State in the opening round, adding size and potential to their defensive line despite Jackson’s limited college experience.

Additionally, on Saturday, the Jets were active in moving up the draft board. They traded up in the fourth round to select QB Cade Klubnik and again in the sixth round for Miami guard Anez Cooper, a three-year starter who bolsters their offensive line depth and was rated as the No. 14 guard by a sports analyst.

The Jets rounded off their draft selections with Kansas State safety VJ Payne as their final pick in the seventh round.
