Joe Flacco and Shedua Sanders Discuss Quarterback Visors
Joe Flacco tried to share some wisdom with Shedua Sanders, but it seemed like Sanders wasn’t really interested.
The Super Bowl champion quarterback pointed out that wearing visors can be impractical. During a lighter moment while filming for the Netflix show “Quarterbacks,” Flacco commented on Sanders’s choice of visor.
“You’ve got a mirror visor, Shedul. Not just a regular clear one,” Flacco noted, speaking to Sanders and other quarterbacks like Dillon Gabriel.
Flacco laughed about his confusion over why quarterbacks opt for visors at all. “Just take off that visor. Who do you think you are?”
To which Sanders responded, “It’s just an eye shield.”
Flacco countered, “Sure, but come on, you wear it to look good. It’s for appearance. People want to see you look nice.”
“It’s the way things are today. Honestly, I don’t want my kids wearing them either. Everyone wants a visor, and it’s just a hassle. They fog up, you know?” Flacco continued.
“That’s not true,” Sanders shot back.
Flacco insisted, “Yes, it’s all about looks. I wanted one when I was a kid too, but deep down, I thought, ‘Visors are frustrating.’” He added that he would allow his kids to wear them but not if they play quarterback, joking about their appearance. “If you’re a quarterback wearing a visor, you look like a total idiot.”
Interestingly, the NCAA and NFL rules don’t allow colored visors during games, meaning players have to stick to clear ones unless they have a medical reason to wear a different type. Jim McMahon is one of the rare quarterbacks known for sporting a colored visor, while Michael Vick is recognized for using a clear one.
During his time at the University of Colorado, Sanders often wore a colored visor during practice.
He plans to switch to a clear visor for games. Currently, Sanders is vying for the starting quarterback role in Cleveland, competing against Deshaun Watson and Gabriel.
Flacco, who is now with the Cincinnati Bengals, is in a backup role behind the frequently injured Joe Burrow.
