Orioles Lose Dramatic Series Opener to Mets
The Orioles appeared set to take the first game of their series against the Mets on Tuesday night.
But then, well, a lot happened over the next eight innings.
In the tenth inning, everything changed. Baltimore initially led 6-2, but then Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer that tied the game. Later, Juan Soto knocked in a two-base free runner, sealing a 7-6 victory for the Mets.
This defeat was tough for the Orioles, and their announcer, Kevin Brown, didn’t hold back in expressing that. He described the loss as “devastating” and highlighted the team’s struggles.
During the Masn broadcast, Brown remarked on the team’s repeated heartaches, especially noting that this was the first time since August 8, 2023, they had blown a four-run lead in the final two innings, this time against Houston.
After the Mets pulled ahead 2-1 in the sixth, Baltimore gathered momentum, scoring five runs over the following two innings and seemed in control with a four-run lead and just six outs left to secure the win.
However, reliever Byran Baker gave up two two-run homers before finally getting the out in the eighth.
Soto’s RBI single in the tenth put the Mets ahead when the Orioles struggled against pitcher Huascar Brazobán.
As Brown noted, this marked the Mets’ first comeback from a deficit of four runs or more since May 5, 2022, when they scored seven runs in a thrilling win over the Phillies.
The two teams are set to meet again at Camden Yard on Wednesday at 7:05 PM.
