Key Candidate for Air Force Leadership Identifies DEI as a Major Focus for the Military

Potential Candidates for Air Force Secretary Support DEI Initiatives

The leading candidates to replace the current Air Force head have a significant history of advocating for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the military.

General Kenneth Willsbach has surfaced as a prominent contender to take over for retired General David Albin as the next Secretary of the Air Force. He has been a vocal supporter of DEI initiatives, even aligning himself with progressive racial justice narratives. This stance seems to clash with Secretary Hegseth’s directive to maintain a separation between leftist politics and military operations.

During his leadership of the Pacific Air Force (PACAF), Willsbach was featured in a video discussing race following George Floyd’s death in 2020, emphasizing that “diversity and inclusion are the fabric of PACAF.” It’s interesting how, while he stresses these values, some worry it goes against military neutrality.

In a 2021 article, Willsbach reiterated his priorities, stating that “when I took command, I laid out four priorities: diversity, preparation, innovation, and lethality.” This focus has been the cornerstone of his leadership approach.

He has also actively engaged in discussions about DEI during virtual meetings with PACAF, featuring speakers who underscore its importance. Conversely, one of Secretary Hegseth’s primary goals is to eliminate leftist political influences from the military. Some observers believe that the promotion of individuals like Willsbach to senior military positions contradicts this mission and raises concerns about politicization within the force.

The Department of Defense has yet to comment regarding the situation or Willsbach’s candidacy.
