Kid Cudi claims he thinks Diddy was involved in the car bombing: ‘Like a Marvel supervillain’

Kid Cudi Testifies in Diddy’s Trial

On Thursday, rapper Kid Cudi came forward to support Sean “Diddy” Combs during the ongoing sex trafficking trial, especially after his name was mentioned multiple times by various witnesses.

The artist, whose real name is Scott Mestudy, found himself central to the discussion partly due to his past involvement with Combs’ ex-girlfriend, Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura, who is alleged to have caused tensions between the two men.

Kid Cudi, now 41, recalled receiving a call around 6:30 AM in January 2012 from a dog babysitter who told him that his car was on fire. Upon arriving at the scene, he was shocked to find the driver’s side of his Porsche 911 cabriolet charred, exclaiming, “Um, what the heck?” Nearby, he found Molotov cocktails, which added to the chaos.

Cudi stated that Combs believed he had some involvement in the incident, though a lawyer for the Bad Boy Records founder disputed this assertion, also noting that a woman’s DNA was supposedly found inside the vehicle.

Prior to the car fire, in December 2011, Combs’ assistant Capricorn Clark informed Cudi that Combs had broken into his home following news of his involvement with Ventura.

Cudi testified that he was unaware that Cassie was dating him at the same time as she was with Combs. He described her as appearing “stressed, tense, scared” during this period, and recalled a conversation where she seemed to mention breaking up with Combs.

“‘Mother Kerr, are you at my house?’ Mr. Rager,” he remembered yelling into the phone, with Combs on the other end saying, “I just want to talk to you.”

He noted that, at the time of the break-in, his security cameras weren’t functioning. Yet, upon arrival, he discovered an unopened Chanel gift and found his dog trapped in the toilet.

Cudi reported both the break-in and the car fire to the police and later met with Combs to discuss it at Soho House. He described Combs as looking like a “Marvel Supervillain” during their interaction, though he noted that Combs remained calm and even offered him water, which struck him as odd.

During their chat, Combs insisted they were “partners,” referring to Cassie as “my girl.” Cudi said he informed him she had said they were splitting, and he took her at her word. Combs apparently brushed off inquiries about the car incident with a “cold stare,” claiming, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Cudi added that, eventually, he received an apology from Combs a few years later, feeling “peaceful” about the whole situation.

For years, speculation about a feud between Cudi and Combs lingered, but it was solidified in a civil lawsuit filed by Ventura against Combs in 2023 — a lawsuit that reiterated past claims linking Combs to an explosion of Cudi’s car.

The lawsuit alleged that Cudi’s car exploded in his driveway in 2012, with a spokesperson for Cudi affirming that the accusations of arson were “all true.” Combs has categorically denied these claims through his lawyer, stating that the allegations are “offensive and outrageous.”

Ventura quickly settled her lawsuit against Combs and later testified that he had paid her $20 million as part of the agreement. Nevertheless, Combs maintains that this settlement does not imply any wrongdoing.

In her testimony, Ventura shared more about her brief relationship with Cudi and its repercussions. She revealed that she started dating him in 2011 but was careful to keep it hidden from Combs due to fears about her safety.

Despite seeing Cudi, she continued her relationship with Combs, which complicated matters further. Her mother, Regina Ventura, also testified, revealing that Combs allegedly demanded $20,000 when he learned about Cassie’s situation with Cudi and that he had shown jealousy over the matter.

Regina expressed that both she and her husband were fearful regarding their daughter’s safety, even going so far as to take out a loan for peace of mind amid the tensions with Combs.

Currently, Combs stands trial for charges related to sex trafficking, assault, and transportation for the purpose of prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty; however, if he is found guilty, he could potentially face a life sentence.
