Kid Rock Responds to Critics Ahead of Halftime Show

Musician Kid Rock has defended himself against criticism as he gets ready to lead Turning Point USA’s “All American Halftime Show” this weekend. He has emphasized that the event is about celebrating love for the country, not promoting hate.

Turning Point USA, co-founded by Charlie Kirk, will host its own show this Sunday, aiming to replace the Super Bowl halftime performance. This comes amidst conservative backlash over the NFL’s decision to feature Latin music artist Bad Bunny during the halftime show.

“I think I can speak for Turning Point and all the artists involved in saying that we are not coming from a place of hate,” he stated in an appearance on “Fox & Friends” on Friday. “It’s really about a love for our base, our music, and our country.”

Kid Rock will headline the event, which will also include performances by Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett. The Detroit native, known as Robert James Ritchie, expressed that many in America feel overlooked by the NFL and the broader entertainment sector.

“Like it or not, there are large parts of this country that feel underserved when it comes to entertainment. Please come and connect with our base—those who love America, football, and Jesus,” he said.

Meanwhile, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell addressed the backlash regarding the halftime artist choice, describing Bad Bunny as “one of the great artists in the world.”

Kid Rock also hinted at performing a song he considers “one of the greatest” he’s ever written, mentioning that it was initially penned by a well-known country artist but that he has added his own twist to it.

“Expect some classic, high-energy rock that people associate with me, but it’s going to shift quickly,” he remarked.

Interestingly, Kid Rock was part of the 2004 NFL Super Bowl halftime show in Houston, Texas, where he performed alongside stars like Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, and Nelly. There’s a sense of nostalgia, perhaps, as he reflects on that experience while gearing up for this weekend’s show.
