Actor Kiefer Sutherland was taken into custody last week on allegations of criminal intimidation after Los Angeles police reported that he assaulted an Uber driver. New information is now surfacing about the incident.
Law enforcement sources informed ABC News that unverified statements from the driver claim the 59-year-old man allegedly struck the driver several times and tried to choke him.
As previously noted by Breitbart News, there were no injuries that required medical attention during the altercation.
A source mentioned to ABC News:
The Uber driver reported to authorities that he exited his vehicle to evade Sutherland and that Sutherland seemed to be under the influence at the time. The driver called 911 while trying to get away.
Officials also stated that the driver had a dashboard camera in his vehicle, which may have recorded parts of the event.
Sutherland has not yet faced charges. The District Attorney’s Office informed ABC News right before his scheduled court hearing on February 2 that the actor is likely to be indicted next month.
Police indicated that the radio dispatch for the incident involved an alleged assault on a rideshare driver at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles.
Originally from London, the actor is being held on $50,000 bail and has a court appearance set for February 2, as per jail records.
The son of renowned actor Donald Sutherland has faced legal issues before, including an arrest in September 2007 for suspected drunk driving, marking his fourth DUI charge since 1989. After pleading no contest, he served 45 days in jail.
In May 2009, he turned himself in to the New York City Police Department for an incident involving fashion designer Jack McCollough, but the charges were later dropped following an apology issued in a joint statement.
Sutherland is perhaps best known for his role as federal agent Jack Bauer in the long-running series 24 and its spin-offs. He has also appeared in films like The Lost Boys and Young Guns, as well as in two movies directed by Rob Reiner, Stand by Me and A Few Good Men.
