Trump Criticizes Crime Following Murder of Ukrainian Refugee
Former President Donald Trump voiced his criticism of the Democratic leadership in response to the tragic murder of Ukrainian refugee Irina Zaltoska. She was fatally stabbed on August 22 while on a commuter train near Charlotte, North Carolina.
In a video shared by the White House, Trump addressed the incident after Decarlos Brown Jr., 34, showed a photo of Zarutska during a press conference.
“We cannot allow the criminal elements of violent crime. Repeated criminals continue to spread destruction and death,” Trump stated. “It’s time to stop this insanity. People in our country need to assert protection, security, law and order,” he added.
Brown, now in custody, has a long criminal history, with over a decade of offenses including 14 arrests in the past 11 years and a five-year sentence for armed robbery. His past also includes psychiatric treatment after being diagnosed with schizophrenia.
In North Carolina, he faces first-degree murder charges and may be subject to the death penalty, as the U.S. Department of Justice has accused him of endangering the mass transit system.
President Trump condemned the horrific murder of the young Charlotte woman and the “crazy criminal monster” responsible. “It’s time to stop this insanity. People in our country need to assert protection, security, law and order,” he remarked.
Trump also expressed his desire for the death penalty for Brown, asserting that there were no other options. “The animal that killed a beautiful young Ukrainian woman who came to America in search of peace and security was given a ‘quick’ trial and only the death penalty. There are no other options!!!” he posted on his social platform.
In the wake of these events, the mayor of Charlotte has called on lawmakers to pass legislation that would increase police presence.
A GoFundMe campaign organized by a family friend of Zaltoska has raised nearly $240,000 of its $280,000 goal as of Wednesday.
