Kim Kardashian faced backlash from PETA after gifting her four children new Pomeranian puppies this Christmas.
Ingrid Newkirk, the organization’s founder, remarked, “Puppies are not toys. It’s disappointing that Kim didn’t take the opportunity to advocate for rescued animals. She’s been justly criticized on social media for this.” She further suggested that Kardashian should contact PETA or a local shelter next time she thinks about bringing an animal home.
Newkirk emphasized that neglecting the ongoing issue of homeless animals is incredibly thoughtless and expressed hope that the SKIMS founder could make a difference.
In her Instagram Story, Kardashian shared a photo of her children happily cuddling with their new puppies, which drew even more criticism. “The kids each got a puppy,” she noted over the image.
Kardashian, who shares North, 12, Saint, 10, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 6 with ex-husband Kanye West, has also been called out for her sister Khloe Kardashian’s decision to adopt a black Labrador puppy.
Newkirk suggested that Kim could help remedy the situation by encouraging her children to volunteer at a local shelter or by funding an adoption or spay day event to combat the rising number of homeless puppies.
Kardashian has often shared moments with her kids, recently posting sweet family photos of them in Christmas pajamas from her brand. The Kardashian-Jenner clan held a close-knit Christmas Eve gathering at Kendall Jenner’s Beverly Hills home this year, opting for a more private celebration within the family instead of a large bash.
Representatives for the Kardashian family have yet to respond to requests for comments regarding the criticism.
