Former Ohio Offensive Lineman Charged in Fatal Crash

Kirk Burton, a former offensive lineman for Ohio, is facing charges for aggravated vehicle murder after police reported he was driving drunk and on the wrong side of the road. This incident resulted in the death of a 24-year-old man in Ohio over the weekend.

The Dublin police stated that Burton, 40, was driving a pickup truck at a high speed in historic Dublin prior to colliding with a Lexus being driven by Ethan Wensperry. The crash occurred just before 3 a.m. on Saturday, and sadly, Perry died at the scene. Burton was taken to the hospital but sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

According to reports, Burton admitted to consuming alcohol before driving. Authorities noted that he appeared to have “blank stares” and glassy eyes when they arrived. He also mentioned that he had been driving on the wrong side of the road before the crash.

Burton was charged with one count of aggravated vehicle murder and appeared in court on Monday. He was released on a $500,000 cash guaranteed bond, with conditions that he remain in the area and abstain from driving. His next court appearance is scheduled for next month.

Having played right tackle for the Buckeyes from 2003 to 2007, Burton was part of the team during a successful period. He went on to be drafted by the Chicago Bears in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Although his NFL career included short stints with other teams, this recent event has certainly overshadowed his athletic achievements.
