Kirk Herbstreit’s Dog Causes a Stir During Field Goal Contest
Kirk Herbstreit finds himself with a rather unruly travel companion these days.
Peter, his golden retriever, made quite the impression at the field goal contest during “College GameDay.” Unfortunately, it was less than favorable.
On air, Pat McAfee joked, “Peter is taking the trash can right in the middle of the contest. Sniff it, Logan. That’s Peter’s fertilizer. But hey, does Peter’s poop help you score $250,000?”
Logan, a contestant, managed to kick the field goal and won $150,000. However, his celebration took an unexpected turn when he stepped into, well, Peter’s mess, while being congratulated by Herbstreit and actor Glenn Powell.
“I’m sorry to break it to you,” McAfee said. “But you did step in Peter’s poop during your celebration. But honestly, who cares? Just buy some new shoes.”
Peter, who became a regular fixture in Herbstreit’s life after the passing of his emotional support dog Ben last year, has already captured hearts across college football. Ben, a social media sensation, left a mark on many, including a letter of sympathy from President Joe Biden.
Herbstreit owns four golden retrievers, and he’s often seen with them while traveling for “GameDay.” Peter typically gets the call to join him on these trips.
Usually, the dogs are well-behaved—though Saturday morning was a bit of a challenge for Peter.
This incident might actually enhance the popularity of Herbstreit’s dogs, so maybe there’s a silver lining. And honestly, considering how the segment ended, it could have been a lot worse.
